A world-class, reliable transit network.
Brussels contains a very extensive, modern and efficient transportation system that contains the Brussels Capital Region together. Though Brussels had the worst traffic congestion two years in North America and Europe in a row, the Belgian government has already begun large scale investments into public transport and mitigating congestion. The Belgian Olympic Committee will aid in these endeavours by investing into transportation and proposing new policies to prepare the city for the Olympic Games and its increased volume of tourists.
The main international airport to be used to accept the large number travelers for the Olympic games will be Brussels Airport located just outside of the urban core of the city. The airport has plenty of capacity for the surplus of passengers that transit through the airport with planned expansions and the recent completion of the Connector building. In the emergency that Brussels Airport becomes closed or a runway or a pier closes, Brussels-Charleroi, Antwerp and Ostend Airport will service these aircrafts until Brussels Airport reopens. Security is a priority of the airport with modern and efficient equipment and techniques such as automatic gates and remote screening. Brussels Airport is connected to the city by two bus routes and the extensive train network with a train station below it. Two tram lines are planned for the airport in 2020.

The Brussels metro, bus and tram system will be connected to the new Olympic Park for ease of transit. We estimate 5km of roads will be required for the new Olympic park and bike rental stations will be built in the area. We believe the extensive rail system of the country has a large enough capacity to transfer tourists to different cities with ease. We believe that most people, after airports, will travel to Brussels by train as Brussels is connected to all of Europe and Asia by the massive train network of trains such as the Eurostar, which connects the city to Paris and London, and the TGV, which connect it to Paris and Rotterdam. Other public transports in other cities such as Antwerp and Ostend, do not require any improvements to their systems. Brussels may have had the most congested roads in all of Europe two times in a row, but improvements are being made to mitigate the effects. Pedestrian areas, congestion taxes, investments in public transport, bus only and carpool lanes are some of the initiatives we will take in part with the government to not only prepare the city for the Olympic Games, but for the future as well.
